Another nugget that I like is using a fan. Just a fan. When you are exercising, have the fan blow gently on your face. It turns out that this can help people accomplish more work and have a more comfortable breathing pattern.
You may feel like your breathing is not as difficult. It can be very calming, and it may promote more efficient exercise.
This is also true for shortness of breath in general. Having a gentle fan on the face can alleviate shortness of breath quite well.
I have some patients who are occasionally short of breath even at rest, and having a gentle fan on the face can be very alleviating. A small handheld fan can work well.
For patients who desaturate significantly when walking from one room to the next, using a fan and pointing it toward the face may help alleviate some of that shortness of breath.
